Meet Keely, Founder

Keely Freeman is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Sierra House, Inc. Founded in 2002, Sierra House provides homeless young women, ages 18 to 25 years old, and their children with supportive services, safe housing, and an opportunity for a productive life. Under her leadership, the organization has been successful in increasing self-sufficiency among at-risk and homeless youth, which ultimately improves the development of the community as a whole. This year, Keely is proud to report that Sierra House has successfully served over 150 homeless young women and children.

Keely also serves the community in other ways. In 2007, she was appointed as a Commissioner of the East Orange Housing Authority where she currently serves as the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. In 2012, she was chosen to serve on the Junior League of The Oranges & Short Hills Community Advisory Board, and in 2012 she was elected to serve on the Sooo Pretty Board of Directors. Prior to entering the nonprofit world, Keely worked in investment banking on Wall Street.

Keely holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Rutgers University and a Master’s in Public and Nonprofit Management & Policy from New York University. She is most proud of her achievements in community service and is committed to improving the quality of life for homeless and low income young adults. Her future goal is to create safe havens across the globe that empower, educate, and motivate young adults to become self sufficient, live to their fullest potential, and encourage them to give back to the community. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering and spending time with family and friends.
